AMS S 8802 standardizes the specifications for temperature-resistant, two-component synthetic rubber compounds of the polysulfide type. These are used for sealing and repairing integral fuel tanks and fuel cell cavities, for continuous service use from -65 to +250 °F (-54 to 121 °C). AMS S 8802 type 1 is a dichromate cured sealant. AMS S 8802 type 2 is a manganese dioxide cured sealant. Within types 1 and 2 are three classes: A, B, and C.

All of the AMS specs are put together into a comprehensive database of individual directives. This serves a big purpose: to standardize procedures, equipment, and processes related to aerospace material processing. AMS and MIL SPEC are both ways to create standardization. The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) created “milspecs” (military/defense specifications and standards) as part of its Standardization Program, which, “seeks to limit variety in purchased items by stipulating certain design details.” This helps make sure all parts used by the DOD in any capacity meet the same quality standards no matter their origin and ensures interoperability between products. It also provides a layer of protection against contractor fraud and promotes greater opportunities for competition among contractors by creating precise production and quality standards for product manufacture. Milspecs are abbreviated "MIL-STD" and "MIL-SPEC" and should always be in a product technical data sheet (TDS). The conversion of MIL SPECS to AMS stems from government Preparing Activities (PA) that are releasing specifications and standards to Non Government Standards Bodies (NGSB). These procedures establish continuity among the SAE committees and address two major concerns, technical equivalency and approval of the resultant SAE document. WS-8020 from Royal Sealants & Adhesives is a high-temperature fuel resistant sealant intended for use on integral fuel tanks with excellent resistance to other fluids such as water, alcohols, synthetic oils, and petroleum-based hydraulic fluids.

Packaging: Available in 2½ - and 6-oz. cartridges, pint, quart, and gallon kits. Also available in premixed and frozen cartridges. Other-size packaging available upon request.

 

WS-8020RC: Rapid Cure Fuel Tank Sealant, Types A1/2, A2, B1/2, B2, and B4

WS-8020RC from Royal Adhesives & Sealants is a rapid cure fuel resistant sealant intended for use on integral fuel tanks with excellent resistance to other fluids such as water, alcohols, synthetic oils, and petroleum-based hydraulic fluids.

Packaging: Available in 2½ - and 6-oz. cartridges, pint, quart, and gallon kits. Also available in premixed and frozen cartridges. Other-size packaging available upon request.

 

CS3204: Fuel Tank Sealant, Types A1/4, A1/2, A2, A4, B1/4, B1/2, B2, and B4

CS3204 from Flamemaster is a fuel resistant sealant for use on integral fuel tanks and pressurized cabins as well as other areas subject to contact with aircraft fuels, lubricants, oils, water, and/or weathering. At room temperature, this two-part polysulfide cures to a flexible, resilient rubber.

Packaging: Available in 2½ - and 6-oz. cartridges, pint, quart, and gallon kits. Also available in premixed and frozen cartridges. Other-size packaging available upon request.
